Reinvent Your Wardrobe With Key Fashion Accessories

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

What do you do when your wardrobe needs a boost? Why, you can either get an entirely new one, or reinvent the one you currently have. It’s all well and good if you’ve got the budget because you can just say goodbye to your closet’s depressing contents and splurge on new clothes. For those who know all too well that money doesn’t grow on trees, however, the latter is not such a bad option at all! With a few well-chosen and stylish fashion accessories, you can totally reinvent your wardrobe without having to sell your soul to the devil.

1. Get key pieces that you can mix and match into different ensembles. This includes clothes and trendy fashion accessories. This will allow you to take your wardrobe into different directions to make it look like you have more clothes than you actually have. Take the classic little black dress (LBD), for example. You can go for a fresh, daytime look by wearing it with a pastel-colored cardigan, colorful sandals, and simple jewelry. Or, you can wear it to a sophisticated social event with patent leather pumps, a strand of pearls, and stylish crocheted shawl.

2. Scarves are fashion accessories you can’t do without. They might seem like no more than strips of cloth, but they do go a long way in jazzing up any ensemble. A few scarves in different fabrics, colors, and prints can spell the difference between classic and fun. Still taking the LBD as an example, a silk scarf with a unique print knotted around your neck adds a splash of color without deviating from the classic look. For a fun, sporty look, a long, knitted muffler around the neck in a bright color or two should do the trick, while a simple cashmere wrap around your shoulders gives you a look of cozy sophistication.

3. Don’t underestimate the power of the blue jeans and white t-shirt. With the right fashion accessories, you can wear these staples all year round. Simply add in sunglasses, flip-flops, and a cute straw bag during the summer. Come fall, you can wear your jeans and white t-shirt with smart, suede mules and a wool hat. In winter, warm up the ensemble with a knitted cape, boots with fur trim, and a leather purse. For spring, wear it with a crocheted shrug and ballet flats or gladiator sandals.

4. Go for unique, even unusual, pieces of jewelry. Pieces such as these make a statement, and can turn even the simplest outfit into an uber sophisticated frock. Keep an eye out for multi-colored, semi-precious stones and finely crafted pieces. You can even go for costume jewelry, which make great fashion accessories because they’re more imaginative and a lot cheaper than gold or silver pieces.

5. Be unexpected. Don’t be afraid to mix and match your wardrobe and fashion accessories into unconventional and unexpected combinations. This will not only give you an edgier, more unpredictable style, your wardrobe options are also considerably wider. It also gives you the opportunity to let your personal style shine through. Of course, do check and double check the whole effect before you even step out of the house. Better yet, get a second opinion. Also, don’t overdo it, and do observe propriety. Other than that, you can never go wrong with being adventurous!

6. Fashion accessories show that you care. Believe it or not, they do. They show that you care for the event you’re attending, for your companion, and even for yourself. They show that you took extra care to look your best and most stylish. Even if you’re in a hurry with no time to dress up, take care to wear a few key pieces of jewelry, grab a trendy handbag, and put on stylish shoes. There’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t bother, and every reason why you should.

Indeed, with a few key fashion accessories in your arsenal, you’ll never have a boring wardrobe. If anything, you’ll end up with the best one out there. Stock up on those key pieces and show your individuality. Before you know it, you’ll be fashion icon – and to think it’s all thanks to a few fashion accessories!

How to Spot Knock Off Designer Clothing and Fashion Accessories

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

One trend that has sprung from the marketing of designer clothing and fashion accessories is the marketing of fake or knock off products. While at first glance these less expensive alternatives may seem like a bargain, for the most part they are not. For one thing, they are without exception, made from inferior materials and constructed to lower standards.

While this may not seem like a big deal at first, it will be when buttons start falling off and stitching comes undone. While you will get the label of the designer on your product that is usually where the similarity stops to the trained observer. High end designer clothing and fashion accessories are built to high standards and pass more then one inspection before they are packed up for shipping.

When you buy knock off designer products, they rarely go through any inspection process, so in the end the only one that will be fooled into thinking it looks and feels like an authentic designer product will be you. One problem that plagues the Internet is people selling fake designer products as the real thing.

You can avoid being taken by these unscrupulous merchants if you follow a few simple rules. Rule number one is that if the deal seems too good to be true then it almost always is. If a product is selling for less then its wholesale cost then it has to be a fake. Beware of obscure overseas sources of designer clothing and fashion accessories.

If you see a website that is offering cheap designer clothing or accessories that have to be shipped from China or Indonesia than common sense should tell you that what they are selling is counterfeit. Also, it is now a legal requirement for all websites to list full contact information so if the site doesn’t, that would be an obvious red flag that what you are buying is fake.

Footwear For Rainy Season

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Wearing suitable footwear is important for every person. Rainy season is a time when footwear takes a beating. Trudging through the water, one always runs the risk of ruining good footwears and further developing foot odor as well. With the rain, all the dirt on the ground turns into mud. Shoes are not suitable footwear during those times. When wet weather arrives, some types of shoes should be kept in the closet until dry days come. Some type of black shoes will develop black stains on the feet or socks when they get wet. Flip-flop wears should also be avoided as they will smudge the clothes from behind. Suede shoes will not with stand moisture and its color will fade if kept under damp conditions.

Leather footwear turns green, if not taken care properly. Wet shoes should be dried properly before they are put in the cabinet. Damp leather is sensitive to heat, which will harden the shoes, and form cracks, when flexed. They should never be dried directly under the sunlight, as they will become as dry as sandpaper. Leather footwears should be wrapped in a nice way and should be put away during rainy seasons. If it is necessary to wear leather footwear during rainy season, feet should not be slipped in and out of the shoes directly, and must be opened only by the laces. Socks are a must; even if they get wet as they act as a barrier between the skin and the leather. Direct skin contact with leather footwear can cause bacterial growth.

Rainy footwears should be selected with straps so that they do not flap and cause long stripes of dirt on the back of the clothes. A sturdy pair of rubber boots or sports sandals would help. Wax polish is always good on shoes, as they repel water, and prevent shoe damage. Wet footwear should not be kept inside the closet, as the moisture in the footwear will soften the glue or rugby in the same. If they are not used for a long time, moisture may even cause cracks in the soles. A small packet of baking soda or charcoal will prevent moisture, odor and bacteria from accumulating in the shoes.
