Demonia Footwear

Friday, April 9th, 2010

This UK company, a faction of Alternative Footwear, delivers high quality shoes to Goths and other darksiders. There’s even a section entitled Unisex Goth! I know several people who have purchased Demonia boots and not one of them has any complaints. Their purchases lasted a long time. Some people still wear their boots frequently even after three years have passed.

The women’s categories consist of creepers, fetish, Goth, flats, sandals, and retro. Available in unisex fashion are pumps, creepers, combat, and the aforementioned Goth. There’s bound to be something for everyone. I’m particularly amazed by their boots. Also, the fetish boots would look so hot on my girlfriend. Anyway, I digress.

I highly discourage buying Demonia products from Hot Topic. This might sound like a conspiracy, and maybe it is, but I’m quite sure that the footwear company purposely makes lower quality shoes for the most definitely un-Goth retail chain. Boots and shoes bought at Hot Topic will fall apart quite quickly, meaning that customers must constantly buy new items from them. But, don’t get angry at Demonia or Hot Topic employees, even if this allegation is true. Orders received directly from their website (http://www.demonia.co.uk/) are of the highest quality. There’s even a long list of new items on the first page. You can also see their entire stock by clicking on the matching link, but I would advise this only if your Internet connection is fast. Another nice bonus to the visiting the website is the pretty Goth fairy kneeling on a red and black background. Very interesting picture.

The downside to this flawless company is the often hefty prices. Some items are nearly 100 British Pounds. However, there is usually a large “up to 75% off” clearance if you’re hurting for money. So stop on by and get a nice pair of boots. You know you’ve been dying to get some killer footwear.

Footwear For Rainy Season

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Wearing suitable footwear is important for every person. Rainy season is a time when footwear takes a beating. Trudging through the water, one always runs the risk of ruining good footwears and further developing foot odor as well. With the rain, all the dirt on the ground turns into mud. Shoes are not suitable footwear during those times. When wet weather arrives, some types of shoes should be kept in the closet until dry days come. Some type of black shoes will develop black stains on the feet or socks when they get wet. Flip-flop wears should also be avoided as they will smudge the clothes from behind. Suede shoes will not with stand moisture and its color will fade if kept under damp conditions.

Leather footwear turns green, if not taken care properly. Wet shoes should be dried properly before they are put in the cabinet. Damp leather is sensitive to heat, which will harden the shoes, and form cracks, when flexed. They should never be dried directly under the sunlight, as they will become as dry as sandpaper. Leather footwears should be wrapped in a nice way and should be put away during rainy seasons. If it is necessary to wear leather footwear during rainy season, feet should not be slipped in and out of the shoes directly, and must be opened only by the laces. Socks are a must; even if they get wet as they act as a barrier between the skin and the leather. Direct skin contact with leather footwear can cause bacterial growth.

Rainy footwears should be selected with straps so that they do not flap and cause long stripes of dirt on the back of the clothes. A sturdy pair of rubber boots or sports sandals would help. Wax polish is always good on shoes, as they repel water, and prevent shoe damage. Wet footwear should not be kept inside the closet, as the moisture in the footwear will soften the glue or rugby in the same. If they are not used for a long time, moisture may even cause cracks in the soles. A small packet of baking soda or charcoal will prevent moisture, odor and bacteria from accumulating in the shoes.

Supra Footwear

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Supra, the name itself reeks of something creative, new and fresh. Supra is a Latin word that stands for ‘above and beyond’ and the creator itself thinks its important to have a great name to appeal to a fresh, new crowd of hip, young youths. The Supra brand of footwear is not your conventional Nike Sneakers. Nikes are great, but many would prefer a contender, someone to come up with something new and exciting and give Nike a run for their money and in my personal view, I think Supra has done it. Breaking traditions, experimenting with colors and designs, and attracting a loyal enthusiast of big names from Nike to Converse to Adidas, Supra has managed to spontaneously combust in a market place swamped with black, lo-fi blando-sneakers. Supra’s collection of neo-classical Skytops and their 14k gold Chad Muska model has caught the attention of many and has been sold out in nano-second.

The reasons that make Supra appealing are their challenging designs that are as ostentatious as they are original, sporting multiple buckles, gold chains and blinding patent leather. Their over-the-top designs have successfully managed to rip the hugely competitive market of sneakers that are filled with black, lo-fi bland sneakers.

Founded by Angel Cabada, who is a self-professed dog lover and native Californian, Supra Footwear is a skate and street inspired footwear company that Angel kick started in 2006. From trying to find his niche working in fast food outlets and not liking it, Angel finally found his calling when he started making clothes with his friends. In addition, as what they say, the rest is history. In less than three years, Cabada has somehow built one of the most daring footwear brands available and is now backed by some of the most influential skaters to put up a skateboard, Chad Muska Erik Ellington, Jim Greco, Tom Penny and Antwian Dixon. Apart from a large fan base compromising skateboarders, Supra has also caught the attention of the music industries big names such as Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and Lil Wayne.

Before Supra, Angel started with TSA that lasted for about ten years. Come 2002, Angel started KR3W, which he still owns under One Distribution and is the umbrella body for both KR3W and Supra Footwear. Supra Footwear, being launched in 2005, is relatively new on the scene, but oh boy, has this baby packed a punch in the footwear scene. Supra was supposed to be KR3W Footwear, by the creator thought better of it-it could create a conflict of interest with the team so after much brainstorming and thinking, Supra was ultimately the footwear label.

When Benjamin Franklin wanted to get electricity, people laughed. When the Wright Brothers wanted to fly, people laughed. So obviously, Angel would know how that feels when people started laughing of his idea of Supra Skytops and when he invested $100k into the first few samples. Nevertheless, looking back now, we are sure Angel has had the last laugh. The shoes have even reached international shores and people all the way from Tokyo to Paris and London to Sydney want the sneakers to be part of their collection of branded sneakers.

Back Pain & Its Relationship to Footwear

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Do your realise that what you wear on your feet, is directly linked to your back? Ever since humans began walking upright, whatever they’ve put on their feet links directly to how their backs are aligned. Flats, cushioning (or lack of) and heels all affect our posture and therefore, our backs. Your heel hits surfaces first, then the rest of the foot follows. Poor distribution of pressure and misalignment can affect your whole body.

High-heels may be the worst culprits, as they pull the weight of the entire body forward and corrupt your posture and the arch of your back. Pain begins to creep in and for eons, women have suffered because of the fashion of the times. High heels are the leading cause of a condition known as Spondylolisthesis. “Spondy”is a condition that is caused by slipping forward on the lower lumbar region. Toes are designed to support us as we walk upright. When a person wears high heels the toes squish together and narrow, thereby causing weight and pressure on the spine. Wearing sexy high heels comes with a price down the line. There are many sexy looking shoes without high heels. Save yourself health and comfort problems by choosing a supportive pair or two of those. You’ll notice the difference.

Orthotic shoes are recommended. These types will support your feet and weight-bearing joints. They will reduce malfunctions of your neurological system if they were created from wearing the wrong type of shoes. They can also reduce injuries and pain from other conditions such as osteoporosis or the way you walk. Check with your doctor on the benefits of these types of shoes. Using one of the many types of inserts available, and adjusting them to your own comfort and posture, may really help. You can also perform stretch type workouts and practice leaning, sitting and lifting at home, to correct some bad routines and habits that you have gotten in to.

Lifting tips to helps stop pain

• Start with your thighs and butt, not your back.
• Do not lift at a distance — move close to the object, put your torso over your feet, then lift while remaining in this position.
• It doesn’t require esoteric yoga positions to lift, just common sense.

Use common sense when shopping for shoes. Sure, it’s okay to have a few fancy pairs that you wear occasionally. Just don’t wear them every day, or to take a hike in. Make sure that your shoes are wide enough and that there aren’t any pressure points from straps or the structure of the shoe. Get shoes with a small or no heel. Make sure that your foot is supported and can breathe. Cushion your foot by wearing a sock or stocking. Use an insole for support if you need to.

A Footwear History

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Footwear is estimated to have started its long history of human use during the Ice Age some 5 million years ago. Unkind weather conditions are said to have created the necessity for footwear.

Other evidences show that footwear came to use at the end of the Paleolithic Period, at about the same time the early humans learned the art of leather tanning.

Early pieces of footwear were made of wrappings, usually made of leather or dried grasses. Later on pieces were developed from an oval piece of leather which is bound by a piece of strong leather thongs. Sandals, which are the first crafted footwear, are the successors to these wrappings.

In Egyptian funeral chambers, paintings show the different stages in the preparation of leather and footwear. The images also show that in Egypt, footwear depicted power and class.

The Pharaohs’ sandals were distinguished by the turned up toes, a characteristic which is missing in the commoners’ footwear. Egyptian sandals were crafted using straw, papyrus, or palm fiber.Later on, Egyptian women adorned their footwear with precious stones and jewels.

Material evidences showed that the Greeks loved and took good care of their feet by using different footwear for different activities. Greek women began wearing sandals to signify their social class. Their footwear signified beauty, elegance, refinement, and extravagance.

It has been said that Greek women of bad reputation attracted men by wearing elevated sandals. These sandals create a “clacking” sound when the wearer moves, and this sound was considered as a symbolic flaunting of sexual charms.

In Mesopotamia, leather wrappings are tied to the feet by a strip of the same material.

Romans, on the other hand, created durable leather thongs so their legions can travel to places on foot. It is also believed that foot fetishes began with the Romans when Senator Lucius Vitellus frequently kissed the shoe of his mistress which was hidden in his tunic.

In Rome, footwear also exhibited social class. The consuls wore white shoes, the senators wore brown shoes, and the uniform footwear for the rest of the region was a short pair of boots that uncovered the toes.

But in all of these early civilizations, footwear indicated social status. Footwear consists of garments that are worn over the feet. They are worn mainly for protection and hygiene, but also for fashion and adornment.

Footwear items come from a wide range of materials including leather, rubber, canvass, wood, and plastic. But early pieces were made from available materials like straw, leather, cowhide, and grasses.

When footwear is assembled, the main components are adhesives, cushion, counterfort, heel, hook, insole, laces, sole, steel shank, tack, toe puff, tread, and welt. Generally, footwear is classified into: boots, industrial footwear, shoes, and sandals.

Boots are available as cowboy boots, galoshes, ski boots, thigh length boots, and so on. Industrial footwear includes plastic boots and rubber loafers which are used in laboratories, construction sites, and production lines.

Shoes include athletic shoes (or running shoes), climbing shoes, clogs, high heels, mary janes, moccasins, mules, loafers, tap shoes, and cross-training shoes. Sandals, on the other hand, include espadrilles, flip-flops or thongs, slide-ons, and slippers.

Footwear is considered an extension of one’s personality. Well-maintained footwear says things about the owner, with cleanliness as the most important concern. Although the intricacy of this craft may have been lost to modernization, their influences are still present in shoes today.

The moccasins worn in early times by people in cold countries are still being worn there, while the sandal patterned after the Egyptians’ creation is still frequently used in hotter countries.

Clogs – Popular Footwear

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Ask your parents or someone older you know about clogs and they’re sure to remember how popular these shoes were in the seventies. They are now starting to get fashionable again.

What are clogs? For people who aren’t aware of them, it is the total design that makes clogs what they are. Clogs are easily worn because these shoes have open backs. You can slip them on and slip them off rather easily. The older clog designs had leather tops and wooden soles. Their toes pointed up a bit and were rounded. Think of “Little Dutch” shoes; that’s what clogs resembled. Clogs are just the more modern forms.

Clogs have returned to being stylish and are more popular this time around. The styling has allowed for clogs with backs and with mesh coverings. Clogs are dependable shoes and they can provide you with a lot of comfort.

Women’s clogs

Women like clogs more than men simply because women adore how they can just put the shoes on and go. Those women who especially like wearing sandals would like clogs more. They could put on clogs while keeping some portions of their feet enclosed. Clogs are ideal because you don’t have to use them only on particular seasons. You could wear clogs all throughout the year even if you wear or don’t wear socks.

A great variety of clogs are around for women to try. These could be made of leather, wood, canvas, suede or they could be garden clogs. Whichever among the varieties of clogs you buy would be based on your own preferences and what your intentions for the clogs might be. As an example, garden clogs are just ideal for gardeners, obviously. They are useful footwear since they could be washed off and used again after they get really dirty. They are created out of tough plastics.

Men’s Clogs

It’s true that clogs for men exist. A lot of guys don’t know about that although even if they knew about it, they may still not consider the idea of wearing them. Historically, only women have been wearing them and that’s why guys wouldn’t really think about wearing clogs. But men’s clogs are different from women’s clogs. Clogs for guys are colored brown or black and they’re made out of good leather. Another facet which men might like are the clogs’ heels. For the clogs made for women, their heels usually are big chunks, but clogs for guys aren’t actually chunky.

The many uses for clogs might have made a lot of people like them. Even those in the medical professions like them. Medical clogs are usually made of strong rubber on their tops and bottoms. These give protection from germs and dangers to the feet of doctors and nurses. Medical professionals usually like wearing clogs since they don’t slip and a lot of hospitals’ floors could be rather slippery.

Clogs aren’t just popular for their designs; a lot of people like wearing clogs because they are very practical. They have been with us for years now and it isn’t likely that they’d go away anytime soon.

Footwear Tips

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Proper footwear can help keep your feet healthy. Choosing footwear must match a simple criteria. To keep your feet healthy you will need to own several pairs of shoes. Women who like wearing high heels must have shoes with heels of varying heights. Pointy toe footwear is useful for making legs appear longer- if legs look thinner and longer, women should use pointy toes footwear. Wear backless or slingback footwear- if one wears slingback or backless shoes instead of pumps, legs look longer and thinner. Sandals, soft leather flat shoes, slippers, or inexpensive cloth shoes are good choices for at-home wear. If you have an enlarged toe joint, cut a hole in the cloth shoes.

Avoid footwear with Ankle Straps- footwear with ankle straps gives the appearance of shorter legs, therefore skin the ankle straps if one wants the legs for looking slimmer. Shoes should be comfortable to wear and wide enough for air circulation. Before buying a shoe draw the outline of your foot on a piece of paper. Try shoes on both feet. Many people have one foot larger than the other. It’s best to fit the larger one. Never buy footwear that is not fit properly. They will not look better. Choose shoes according to the activity to be performed. Buy shoes in the latter half of the day and you will get shoes that fir you accurately. Avoid having your shoes fitted on the weekend, when retailers are often most busy, and therefore also unable to provide full attention.

Footwear Tips

1. Avoid footwear with ankle straps- footwear with ankle straps gives the appearance of shorter legs,

2. Men should try to select a shoe that matches the pants or darker than pants.

3. If one wears a belt, wear shoes according to belt.

4. Choosing footwear must match a simple criteria.

5. Try shoes on with the type of socks or stockings, insoles you normally wear.

6. Always wear socks or stockings with shoes to help avoid blisters and sores.

7. Choose shoes according to the activity to be performed.

8. Never wear plastic shoes, because they don’t stretch or allow your foot to get air.

Flip-Flops – The Footwear For Easy Living

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

The flip flop is the ultimate in summer and vacation footwear. The beauty of the flip flop lies in its simple design and its versatility. These fantastic examples of footwear suit everyone and as long as you get the style right to match your dress you can get away with wearing flip flops with any outfit. You can even get away with wearing a designer pair of flip flops with a business suit although you may get frowned at if you wear them to the board meeting.

Flip flops make the perfect footwear for the beach and day to day walking when the weather is good but also you can get away with wearing them with your evening dress; that is the beauty of them. If you get a nice leather pair these can be worn for most formal occasions and can look quite trendy if worn with the right clothing.

Many brides are now choosing flip flops as their footwear of choice for their big day. You can get some quite beautiful flip flops that jewelled and sequined that look stunning with a wedding dress. These flip flops can make a massive difference to the look of the bride on her big day as well as being much more comfortable than wearing traditional wedding footwear.

Flip flops are the ultimate in unisex footwear, equally popular with men and women all over the world. In many countries these shoes are the footwear of everyday use as they allow the foot to breathe as well as being cheap and fantastically comfortable.

When buying flip flops you should be aware that you get what you pay for, the cheaper the footwear the lesser the quality but for most peoples everyday vacation wear a mid priced flip flop should more than adequately live up to the task they were designed for.

If you are looking for a nice pair of flip flops to wear in the evening time you should try to look for a good pair of leather ones that have a designer label, this way you can guarantee a certain degree of quality in the shoe.

Finally, just like buying any type of normal footwear you should always try your flip flops on before you buy them. If you buy an ill fitting pair of flip flops they can ve very difficult to walk in and can even be quite dangerous to wear.

Shoe Organizers – Find Your Footwear Faster

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Do you often find yourself running behind because you can’t find that matching pump? If your closet seems to require a headlamp and spelunking gear every time you search for just the right pair of shoes, it might be time for some major renovation. Fortunately, getting your shoe collection in line is a lot easier than exploring an uncharted cave.

Since they come in so many styles and have a knack for accumulating, shoes can be tough to get a handle on, organizationally speaking. However, with the right tools, even the most jam-packed of closets can be whipped into shape in no time at all. Consider some of these super handy shoe and boot organizers as you start to tackle your own jumble of flip flops, flats and other assorted footwear.

Silver Satin Floor to Ceiling Shoe Tree

One great option for fitting more shoes into the space you’ve already got is going vertical with the Silver Satin Floor to Ceiling Shoe Tree. Measuring only 12 inches wide, the shoe tree telescopes up to 96 inches high to fit securely in most closets and offers enough spots for up to 36 pairs of shoes.

For easy access, the shoe racks rotate and you can adjust the space in between them to accommodate shoes and boots of any size. An added accessory basket also fits at the top of the unit, providing a great spot for extras like laces, belts and more. Although it works great in a closet, the unit’s sleek design and silver satin finish make it attractive enough to keep right out in the open.

Over Door Twelve Pair Shoe Rack

Another great option for shoe aficionados with limited space is the Over Door Twelve Pair Shoe Rack. Taking up only about an extra 6 inches of width on the back of any closet door, this rack takes advantage of useful space that might otherwise go to waste. With enough spots for twelve pairs of shoes, this rack secures them with the sole to the back of the door so they won’t fall off even if the door is opened quickly or slammed.

Hanging Shoe Organizer

Another excellent way to capitalize on your closet’s extra vertical space, the Hanging Shoe Organizer hooks onto any ordinary closet rod to support a fabric tower with spaces for your favorite pairs. This handy organizer is supported by a sturdy steel bar at the top and has enough spots to keep ten pairs of shoes in order in less than five inches of horizontal space.

8 Shelf Shoe Bag with Side Pockets

Featuring the same great design concept as the Hanging Shoe Organizer, the 8 Shelf Shoe Bag offers a bit more room for keeping larger shoes and boots off the ground and organized. Each of the unit’s eight shelves offer twelve inches of width. The unit hangs from any closet rod and offers an additional four mesh storage pockets on one side-perfect for flip flops and accessories, but big enough to handle sneakers or other larger items.

Tilt Out Shoe Organizer

For shoe lovers who prefer to keep their favorite pairs in more upscale digs, the Tilt Out Shoe Organizer offers an attractive alternative to more bare-bones models. These practical units are easy on the eyes and feature black vinyl-covered steel construction and keep your shoes behind discreet tilt out doors. The Tilt Out organizer is available in two and three door models, able to accommodate six and nine pairs respectively.

Clear Under Bed Shoe Chest

When your closet simply can’t fit another pair of pumps or sandals, another great place to expand your collecting capacity is under the bed. The Clear Under Bed Shoe Chest measures only 6 inches high-the perfect size to fit under any bed frame-and offers plenty of room to 16 pairs of shoe safe from dust and close at hand. The unit offers zipper closure, a rope handle to make pulling it out a simple prospect, and is constructed of see through vinyl, so you can find what you need with a quick glance.

Mesh Expandable Shoe Rack

Finally, there’s nothing like adaptability for making storage and organization quick and simple. The Mesh Expandable Shoe Rack offers two sturdy metal shelves and expands anywhere from 22 inches to 3 ½ feet to fit perfectly in any closet.

A well organized shoe collection is not only more appealing to the eye-it also makes life a whole lot easier when getting ready to go out. Any of these fantastic organizers can help keep your shoes where you need them to be and even offer some extra storage space to expand your collection. Add a bit more convenience and order to your closet and find the organizing tools for you now.
